For many gamers, gaming is a way to escape real life and a safe place to be themselves. It’s also a chance to meet people from all walks of life.
However, a recent survey found that LGBT and Asian-American gamers feel that video game characters do not adequately represent their sexual orientations. Despite this, these groups are still active gamers.
Tanya
As a lesbian gamer, meeting the people you follow on social media can be nerve-wracking. You don’t know if they are as cool in real life as they are on Twitter, or if they’re a little too internet-cool for you to really trust them.
When it comes to the Mortal Kombat franchise, I’ve always felt that a big part of its charm is that it includes so many diverse characters. Whether it’s Mileena, Jade or Tanya, all of these heroes are capable of doing more than just kill each other.
For example, MK 11 shows half-Tarkatan clone Mileena being plucked from the past to get a new start in life. She wants more than just blood and power: she wants love, family and a sense of belonging. She finds this in her Edenian ally Tanya, with whom she shared some flirty exchanges in their last game appearance together.
Kathleen
Kathleen is a lesbian gamer and a friend of Caitlin and Melanie. She’s a friendly and unpretentious girl who has a little bit of a feisty side.
She’s a lot like Tanya in that she likes to be social and make friends with people who she wants to get close to. She’s also a very expressive person and loves to share her thoughts and ideas with others.
She hates when she feels left out and doesn’t have anyone to talk to. She also tends to gossip a lot about other girls. Luckily, she has good friends who help her stay away from that.
Jade
Jade is a lesbian gamer who is single, sassy and loves photography. She also has a marked taste for adventure and justice.
She wants to bring about change and fight against prejudice and propoganda. She’s a strong person with good morals and she believes in the power of Ch’i or Qi, a life force.
In the past, jade was used as a symbol of goodness, virtuousness and honesty. The gemstone came in a variety of colors, including deep green, translucent lavender, creamy white and orangey-red.
It’s been carved into jewellery, ornaments and small sculptures since records began. It is a durable, compact, typically green mineral that takes a high polish.
It is mined from ophiolites, hard rock deposits formed by ancient subduction zones that are pushed beneath continents and volcanic island arcs. Nephrite and jadeite are the most common jade minerals, and they come in a range of shades.
Jessica
Jessica is a lesbian gamer who streams her favorite video games on Twitch. She works at a progressive tabletop roleplaying game publisher, and she has faced both sexism and gender bias in the gaming industry.
She’s also a violinist and singer with her own band. She’s traveled to the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe, playing music at places like CBGB, Landmark’s Mayan Theatre and Carnegie Hall.
She’s been a member of Girls’ Generation since 2007 and is currently under the management of Coridel Entertainment. Her solo debut came in 2016 with the title track “Fly”. She’s a passionate advocate for women and children and is also the spokesperson for the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition. She is also a co-chair of 1Goal, an international campaign for education for all. She has also made numerous trips to Capitol Hill and is an active supporter of various non-profits. Her activism has been rewarded with several honors.
